ABOUT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTER
In our English Language Center our mission is not just teaching English, it is to provide study that is tailor-made for each student.
In cities, most Indonesians began learning English when they are very young. In general, they have a very good understanding of language structure, phrasing, and vocabulary, yet when it comes to communicating, they encounter great difficulty.
Years of experience in providing high quality Indonesian language training for foreigners helped us to understand the problem of learning English for Indonesians. Our lessons focus on improving communication skills by activating learner’s existing knowledge in order to build confidence. We personalize each course by first determining student’s current English knowledge and then designing a study program to conform to individual learning styles and goals.
TEACHING & TEACHERS
Realia’s teachers are professionals with open minds and willingness to adapt and adjust to teach either adult, teenagers or children participants from different backgrounds, educations or professions. Our teachers give individual attention to their students and are sensitive to their interests, needs, and personal characteristics and they design study materials and approach appropriate to each learner.
All Realia teachers have attended either English teachers’ training institutes or English literature faculties at reputable universities. They receive additional training at Realia on lesson planning and teaching for individual skill levels and requirements.
In the classroom, learning materials and teaching methods can be altered or extended to suit the student’s progress. As required by the student, activities can also be adapted to focus on a particular skill or to stress a certain subject. Both receptive and productive skills are encouraged, ensuring students practice reading and listening to improve receptive skills and speaking and writing to improve productive skills. The selection of topics follows individual interests, expertise, needs, and requests.

Our clients include students from universities such as Gajah Mada, Jogjakarta, and Janabadra who join Realia either as individuals or in groups to improve their English for better job opportunities to prepare for Masters or PhDs scholarship programs.
Others who have studied English at Realia include:

COURSES
Our courses are either general or custom-tailored and cover a broad scope to suit all language needs and levels. All courses are based on individual instruction or small classes of maximum 6 students. For small classes, tuition sharing must be arranged by the participants.
Active English Course
The Active English Course helps learners improve their current English abilities in all four key language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. We help learners activate their existing knowledge and build their confidence in order to communicate effectively. Students are free to decide on the lesson focus and the topics that suit them best. The Active English Course is taught at ten levels of proficiency, from Beginner to Advanced. Students take a placement test on arrival to determine the level of study. All courses include lessons in using the Internet and other computer assisted learning materials.
Beginner Course
The Beginner Course introduces basic knowledge of English. The objective is to bring a pure or near beginner learner to be able to:
- Understand and use familiar expressions and exchange information in simple terms
- Write simple texts such as memos or instructions
- Read short texts with simple vocabularies about familiar subjects
Intermediate Course
The Intermediate Course develops the participant’s ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations. The objective is to bring a learner who has mastered all the basic skills (based on an in-house evaluation) to a level to be able to:
- Participate effectively in most routine conversation on practical and social topics
- Read a variety of original material on familiar subjects
- Write effectively on topics pertinent to social and professional needs
Active English for Advanced Students
The Active English for Advanced Students Course improves the participant’s communication skills to the level of the well-educated native speaker. The objective is to bring the learner to be able to:
- Speak with idiomatic accuracy and cultural awareness in both formal and informal situations
- Read a wider range of texts addressed to the general reader
- Write a wide variety of written styles pertinent to professional or educational needs

INTENSIVE COURSES
Intensive Courses cover all levels of skill from beginner to advanced, and can be general purpose or targeted to a specific need. The classes run 30 hours per week from Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
NON-INTENSIVE COURSES
The content of the Non-intensive Courses is the same as Intensive Courses and covers all level of skill from Beginner to Advanced. The participant decides the duration and intensity of the course and also place (upon request we are able to arrange courses to take place at the participant’s premise)
OTHER PROGRAM
English for Specific Purpose
The English for Specific Purposes program is custom-tailored to specific needs for an individual or groups; such as companies, government agencies, or aid organizations; in a variety of specialties, for example: military, health, agriculture, or tourism. The contents and the syllabus of each course are adapted to the learner’s requirements following needs and skills analyses, subject to the approval of the learner. There are no set course levels. Each course is personalized to the student’s exact knowledge level, learning style and goals.
Language Consultations
The Language Consultation program is designed to provide consultation on how to write specific documents, such as CVs, reports, speeches, and proposals that meet international standards.
